Traditional Italian cookies that are hard on the teeth, but worth it. Can be successfully soaked in alcoholic liquids.
Ingredients:
500 g of sugar
500 g flour
350 g almonds
4 beaten eggs
egg for brushing
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1⁄2 teaspoon fresh vanilla
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder a sprinkle of salt
butter
Procedure:
The almonds are roasted for 2-5 minutes in the oven at 190 degrees and then roughly chopped.
Flour and baking powder are mixed with sugar, vanilla and salt.
Add the beaten eggs.
Knead until the dough is soft.
Add the almonds to the dough, which is rolled into long sausages.
Brush with egg and water and bake for 15 minutes at 190 degrees.
Remove from the oven and cut into diagonal pieces, which are put back in the oven and baked until brown.
The cakes are very hard. Take care of your teeth!
Biscotto di Prato can be dipped in a sweet dessert wine or a good rum.
